When Grown Ups Play

On Saturday night we headed out to a different kind of evening. Instead of getting together with our friends to congregate around a box or a screen, we attended a Murder Mystery Potluck Dinner Party. It was so much fun. Our friends Jeff and Yvette hosted the evening at their place. They bought the game, they divvied up the roles and welcomed us to their home to play. The particular game that they had purchased featured 8 players, but there were 16 of us in attendance. Jeff had re-written much of the game and characters just for those of us attending.
Nick's character was that of a biker, the perfect excuse to break out the Fu, which he did. I think he did a great job of playing the biker dude. Sort of anti-social, sort of intimidating, sort of rough- but we all know bikers are just big teddy bears.

My role was that of a bar fly, funny because I've never actually been to a bar! But I was meeting a blind date, someone I met off the internet- which I would never do, (or would I?).

We got our character assignments a few days before the party so we could learn the basic background information. I really did try to learn my part, but I woke up on Saturday just feeling trashed and definitely not up to "acting". You can imagine my surprise/chagrin when I walked into the party to be handed my 'lines'' and 'inside scoop' for the first scene and learned that I was the murderer! I so did not feel up to the challenge, and while I'm sure no one will be asking me to join Community Theatre I did well enough that no one even suspected me.

I found it so much harder to be someone other than me than I thought I would. Luckily it appears I'm pretty good at deflecting, my saving grace indeed! Since no one accussed me of the murder I was crowned the winner. There was even a prize, I now get to be the host of our next Murder Mystery night, and there will be another!

What a great party!!!!!

Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun.

Let us know about the next one. I want to hear all about it.

The pic of Nick is definitely a keeper. How did you manage to fool everybody? I sure cannot imagine you as a barfly. Maybe you have the talent of acting and didn't even know it.

Good to see you guys getting out and having some grown up fun.

Hey, I figure you'll check here before anywhere else so you don't have to post this - just to let you know.

Last night at work I over-heard two people talking about a Derek and Cecilia. So nosey me, I asked if they were talking about the magician. And, guess what? The lady turned out to be Derek's sister (can't remember her name but she is his only). She asked me to say hi to you both and that she misses fighting with Nick. After my next customer, this man walks up to the counter and says, "I hear you know my son." So I also talked to Derek's dad and asked him to say hi to Derek and Cecilia for me.

Just wanted to pass on the hi!

You take care. I'll try to call Sunday night after Amazing Race - or you can call me - but I should be home 'cause I get to work days again.

Love you all.
